Drenthe Heath Days

15 to 23 August

Drenthe Heath Days: a new tradition on the flowering heath

The very first Drenthe Heath Days will take place from Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 August 2026. During the third week of August, the Drenthe heathland will take centre stage during a special week full of nature, tradition and experiences.

Together with the ten sheep flocks in Drenthe, a varied programme is organised every day. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful Drenthe countryside, learn about the centuries-old craft of shepherding and discover the special role that sheep flocks play in preserving the heathland.

The shepherd, his dog and the flock of sheep form the heart of the Drenthe Heath Days. Sheep have been part of the Drenthe landscape for centuries. By grazing, they keep the heathland healthy and ensure that this unique natural area is preserved for future generations.
