In Drenthe, we’re proud of our roots. The history, the landscape, the culture: we carry this heritage with us and preserve it. But what do our roots say about us? To what extent do we see our roots reflected in our surroundings and in ourselves today ? During ‘Back to Your Roots’, an inspiring and culinary evening in Frederiksoord, we’ll be discussing this very topic.

On 3 December, we’ll be combining culinary roots with genealogical and historical roots. During a talk by author Wil Schackmann, we will discuss genealogical research and how our view of our ancestors has changed over the past fifty years. Schackmann will also talk about the emergence and disappearance of the ‘hut villages’ around the Colonies of Benevolence. After the talk, we’ll head to De Proef, where a dinner featuring produce from our own garden will be served. Following the dinner, a second talk will give us an insight into the botanical roots of Drenthe.
