Oldengaerde country estate Dwingeloo
Oldengaerde estate is quite well preserved, including its interior. The estate consists of an ensemble of listed buildings, gardens, garden objects and woods. The manor house forms the heart of the estate. The manor house was already mentioned in the early 15th century. The house got its current classicist look around the middle of the 17th century. The striking entrance in rococo style dates from the mid-18th century. Watch the video, made in cooperation with the Drentse Landschap.
At its core, The Havixhorst estate consists of the manor house with outbuildings, garden, moat and surrounding forest. In total, the estate covers about 100 hectares. The estate is beautifully situated in the Reest river valley, between Meppel and De Wijk. The buildings now house a hotel-restaurant. The accompanying garden has been redesigned in baroque style. The garden of the manor is used as a herb garden for the restaurant and is open to visitors.
