The shooting range was built in 1869 for the 'Scherpschuttersvereniging Frederiksoord en Omstreken'. Young people who had practised sufficiently at the Exercise School and were 14 years of age or older were allowed to participate in the shooting exercises. With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, the association ceased to exist. In 2010-2011, the range was thoroughly restored by the 111 Armoured Engineer Company from Wezep.
