The Ice Route Havelte is a signposted 5-km route through the beautiful Holtingerveld nature reserve. You walk past the flock of sheep, past remains from World War II (railway line, landing strip and train track) and encounter burial mounds and dolmens from the ice age along the way. The route is not paved everywhere.
Parking and public transport
The route starts at Access Gate Holtingerveld at Van Helomaweg 18, where there is plenty of free parking and several routes start from this spot. This place is not so easy to reach by public transport. You can get off at bus stop Centrum in Havelte, but then it is still almost half an hour's walk to the starting point.
