The route goes through the Dwingelderveld, an area of extremes: through drifting dunes, past fens and manor houses, past dobs and pingoes and through woods and heathlands.

The cycle route starts at the visitor centre in Spier and then goes to Ruinen, Dwingeloo and Lhee. The route follows the cycle junctions, is 39 kilometres long and runs almost everywhere on separate cycle paths.
