The Potties Bargen Walk (6 km) starts on the outskirts of the village of Wapse, at junction 83. From here, you’ll soon be walking into the woods and following a varied path through the countryside. A large part of the route runs through the Drents-Friese Wold National Park, one of the largest contiguous nature reserves in the Netherlands. You’ll walk through pine forests and along quiet sandy paths, making this walk a wonderful combination of tranquillity and experiencing nature. Along the way, you can also take a detour to the De Wigwam hiding place, a special historical site commemorating those who went into hiding during the Second World War.
Parking and public transport: You can park cars and bicycles on Veenhuizerweg. Please ensure that you do not obstruct other road users and leave sufficient space for through traffic.

This walk starts at junction 83 on Kerkenkampsweg; we walk along the cycle path and past the es grounds of the Nul towards the Drents Friese Wold. After turning right at no. 58, we pass very close to the hiding place, which is certainly worth a visit.
On route no. 52, we pass Potties Bargen, a historic burial mound also known as hunebed D52a. At junction 52, the route turns onto route no. 62 towards Doldersummerweg. It’s also nice to turn right to rejoin the route via the ‘historic bullet traps’.
On the Doldersummerweg, we follow the sheep track to number 50. Here, we take in a section of the old ‘knapzakkenroute’ before returning to the starting point via the Veenhuizerweg.
Signposting: follow the dark blue signs marked ‘Potties Bargen’. The route is signposted in one direction only.
