The Randje Drenthe Route 4 Zuidwolde starts and ends at Cafetaria Het Busstation in the centre of Zuidwolde. The route is 66 km long and passes through Alteveer, Kerkenveld, Elim, Dalerpeel, Coevorden, Zwinderen, Geesbrug, Tiendeveen, Hoogeveen, Fluitenberg and Echten before returning to Zuidwolde.

The Verlengde Hoogeveense Vaart was dug in 1858 to transport peat from the Bargervenen, behind Nieuw-Amsterdam.
During the Second World War, the Germans housed Jewish forced labourers here. They were made to work on land reclamation, in agriculture and on the embankments of the Coevorden–Zwinderen canal.
This region is described on old maps as Siberia. The area probably got that name in the French era, as it was remote and deserted.
Hoeve Sonneclaer is a spacious rural farm campsite in Drenthe, which is very suitable for families with children. Plenty of playground equipment. Cosy terrace. Access to the organic dairy farm and ice cream maker.
In Echten is the experience trail the Roekpad. The Roekpad runs through the Kraaienbosch and parking is available near Visio Echten.
Huize Echten is a historic manor house with roots in the Middle Ages. The house was inhabited by the Van Echten family, descended from the Van Coevorden family from the early 13th century. This noble background gave the house an important position within the region.
