The route 'New Beginnings', (12 kilometres) which starts in Hoogeveen, focuses on the person Vincent van Gogh and what we can learn from the letters he wrote to his brother Theo throughout his time in Drenthe.
Inspired by stories of other artists, Vincent van Gogh travelled to Drenthe in the autumn of 1883. He arrived at the railway station in Hoogeveen and after a few weeks he travelled on by train barge to south-east Drenthe. Step into Van Gogh's footsteps during these walking tours. Travel past the locations where he stayed, painted and drew. The walking routes let you discover what Vincent experienced here and lead you past the landscape he fell in love with. There are four Van Gogh Drenthe walking routes available.

Parking and public transport
Parking is available at Hoogeveen station (Stationsplein 6, 7901 AA Hoogeveen). Of course, the station is also easy to reach by public transport. Go to www.9292ov.nl or call (0900) 9292.
Signposting
The routes are marked with brown and white signs in the landscape. Along the way, you can find additional information in the route guide and on information panels. At some locations, look-through panels have been placed, where you can capture the past and present environment in a picture.
This route goes partly on unpaved, sometimes boggy roads. This route is not therefore wheel-friendly.

- The routes are marked with brown and white signs in the landscape. Along the way, you can find additional information in the route guide and on information panels. At some locations, see-through panels have been placed, here you can capture the environment of then and now in a picture.
- The routes are partly on unpaved, sometimes boggy roads. At the beginning of each route it states whether it is wheel-friendly. The wheel-friendly options are indicated in the paper walking guide available for sale at local Tourist Info points.
- To avoid nuisance from flora and fauna (ticks,nettles etc.), we recommend wearing long trousers and sturdy shoes.
- You will not walk past eating or drinking establishments on every route, but everywhere there are benches or picnic tables where, like Vincent van Gogh probably did, you can eat outdoors.
