Additional Info

  • You leave Dwingeloo via sand, shell and clinker roads to drive along the Drentse Hoofdvaart to Diever.
  • After leaving Diever and crossing the N855, you pick up a dirt track that leads you to Diever's fixed route. This tough route (on the border of Southwest Drenthe and Southeast Friesland) runs through the National Park Drents-Friese Wold, one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands with over 6,000 hectares of forest, heathland and drifting sand. The route is made especially for mountain bikers, which is why you will find mostly singletracks. Despite this being a fairly flat area, you will find a surprising amount of height difference in the route. In 2014, the route was adapted with long technical sections with tough climbs and descents.
  • The route is pretty tough and, combined with the routes in Appelscha, you can speak of a pretty intense challenge for advanced hikers.
  • In Drents Friese Wold National Park, there is a lot of tourism. Occasionally, routes cross footpaths and bridleways. This need not cause any problems, but keep it in mind.
  • You finish the ride with fast trails that take you through the Leggelderveld to Geeuwenbrug where you ride back to Dwingeloo via the Drentse Hoofdvaart. In short, a great challenge for the advanced MTB rider too!
  • Great idea! Cycle several #RondomDwingeloo routes consecutively in one day and earn a trophy. A unique boulder with inscription; 2 routes 'KEI-good', 3 routes 'KEI-maf' and for the ultra's all four routes 'KEI-tergek'. Free to pick up (along with a drink of your choice) at Hotel & Restaurant Wesseling on presentation of your Strava file.
